The sailboat was diverted to the port of Ahsdod , a major commercial port in southern Israel near Gaza, where the passengers were to be disembarked , the Israeli Defense Ministry said. Informed of the interception, French President Emmanuel Macron "requested that the six citizens on board be allowed to return to France as soon as possible ."
